Built on Craft, Not Shortcuts

Ivey Builders was founded in 1996 on a simple belief: time-honored renovation deserves contractors who understand craftsmanship, whether the property is a historic farmhouse or a modern home. Historic home restoration is our specialty and where our craftsmanship is most visible, but we bring the same standard — where the budget matches the ambition and every detail holds up to scrutiny — to refined remodels of any property. We've built our practice around the patience and precision that this level of work demands: sourcing quality and period-appropriate materials, matching original joinery methods on historic homes, and working closely with homeowners and, where required, historic district review boards.

Much of that precision comes down to tools. Alongside modern equipment, we work with a collection of restored vintage hand tools — including antique metal hand planes — for trim, millwork, and joinery where a hand-finished result matters more than speed. It's a slower way to work, but it's the way these homes were originally built, and it shows in the final detail.

Ivey Builders provides architectural and design services for historic renovation and restoration projects, or partners directly with your preferred architect and designer to bring your vision to life.

We're based in Hillsboro and work throughout Loudoun County, but our approach doesn't change from project to project: understand the house first, then build.

Our Approach

  • Every project starts with an on-site walkthrough, not a quote over the phone.

  • We document original details before any demolition begins.

  • We source salvaged and period-matched materials whenever possible.

  • We use restored vintage hand tools, including antique metal hand planes, for period-accurate trim and millwork.

  • We manage the historic district approval process on your behalf when applicable.
